“Rumors, rumors are no fun. Rumors, rumors hurt someone.” Or so the childhood caveat goes.
In my opinion, rumors can be fun and when they’re in relation to an amazing new sports car, they most definitely are. I don’t think Jaguar will suffer any irreparable damages from chatter about their (fingers crossed) up-and-coming A5 and 3-Series competitor. In my opinion, a petite two-door sports coupe is just about the only thing Jaguar really lacks so I am not opposed to spreading this opaque tale.
I guess it would be fair to upgrade this ‘rumor’ to more of a ‘possibility’ since Jaguar’s chief program engineer, Mick Mohan, recently spoke on the possibility of a more affordable Jag.
“The X-Type won’t be around forever, and because we don’t plan to replace it, there are lots of possibilities for cheaper models,” Mohan said. “Personally, I’d love to make a compact coupe – an Audi a5 or BMW 3-series coupe rival. I think we’d make a really good one too.”
There is no doubt in my mind that Jag could churn out a compact coupe to be reckoned with. Given the popularity, accessibility, and relative affordability of these types of vehicles, many far-fetched dreams of Chicago Jaguar ownership will have the chance to become a reality.
One rumor, however, that I will not support is the possibility of a future SUV or crossover vehicle at your Chicago Jaguar Dealer. Can you imagine the Leaper badge spread out on the tailgate of a Escalade-esque SUV? Well, neither can I. And Mohan appropriately commented, ”Utility will never be what we’re about.”
The engineers at Jaguar aren’t making any promises at this point, but the planning process seems to be about 12 months away. For now, Jag fans must enjoy the fruits of the Chicago Jaguar XF and wait…patiently.
